Pediatric Acupuncture is a holistic system of care. It not only treats the outward symptoms, but treats your child as a unique whole person. It is quite common for a child's well being to show marked improvement in other aspects of their daily lives. It has been noted that a child's spirit, happiness, energy, and vitality blossom. In this way, Pediatric Acupuncture can be beneficial for easing children though the many life cycle changes they have to go through.
The First Visit
The first visit takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Infants and small children can feel safe and snug on their parent's lap while we talk about your child's medical and social history, assess complaints, observe your child's pulse, breathing and heartbeat, complexion, voice, constitutional strength, general temper and demeanor. Even the youngest child responds well to this. Your child is an integral part of the treatment. Acupuncture treatment is not done to them, rather, it is with their permission and partnership that we work together. Children are involved in the processes, and treatment is always discussed with you and your child.
Follow up visits
When working with children the actual time of the acupuncture is very brief, and older children and teens may require more time. A typical visit lasts 25-45 minutes. Children feel the effect immediately and often start to feel better right away. Infants respond very quickly with gentle acupressure or Shonishin technique. Older children often have stronger constitutions and may have more complex complaints and imbalances, thus possibly requiring more time or a more complex treatment. In the event that your child requires and agrees to having traditional Acupuncture with needles, be assured that Acupuncture needles have been approved by the FDA as medical tools; and it is our industry standard to use only sterilized single use needles. We use only the finest needles on the market which often times are barely perceived.
The number of treatments that will be necessary vary depending on the severity and duration of the condition, as well as the strength and constitution of your child. In considering your child's case, we will work with you to shed light on the root causes of the condition. You and your child will then be advised to take appropriate measures which may include lifestyle and dietary changes.
Treating the underlying root causes of your child's complaints now will allow them to grow into healthy adults!
